The emotional mind: for better or for worse?

I'm a bit confused with a branch of psychology claiming the emotional mind to be largely negative (regressive, disconnected), while a today's tendency (among some but not all psychologists) seems to be that we do not listen enough to our emotions and that they are rather the ideal way to connect with ourselves, being our true self and our true input way  of reacting (that we usually tend to ignore mentally).

Rather than only having an emotional mind, some psychologists   spread the mind capacities to the entire body to become the "emotional body" since body cells have a complete historic of our life.

Your way of thinking interests me, thank you for your comments on this!
